YK-16 Should Have Been Named
"Patches" looked like a block of swiss cheese when she was lifted back
from Hill 881 by a CH-53 on Easter Sunday in 1968.

This is the squadron area before the rockets fell
into it on the night of May 26, 1968 which injured many and killed SSgt.
Jack D. Deese, Cpl. Ronald E. Grier and Cpl. James E. Johnson.

The photograph is new but the patch and the jacket
were worn by Cpl. John Sabol, Jr. Note the patch has the dates of
67-68 on it. Your webmaster had the distinct pleasure of recently
meeting with John Sabol, Earnest "Earnie" Kun and Edward C. "Ed" Straka
in Hazelton, Pa. for the purpose of gaining more information about our
squadron. The mission was a success.
