I am interested in any information or accounts others may have in regard to the two NVA soldiers who surrendered while we were on the hill. On two occasions I was asked to interview these men along with another Marine because of our Vietnamese language training. On at least one of these times I do remember going down the North side of the hill to help escort one of them up and then going into a bunker to begin the initial questioning for basic information. On another occasion I remember again speaking with one in a bunker for the same purpose. I'm afraid my memory of all this is very vague now except for a few things. I do remember having the chance to take articles of one of the soldiers uniform as souvenirs, but did not do so. I also remember sharing my c-rations with the same soldier and even giving him my prized fruit cocktail. I don't know, I just remember seeing these soldiers as men just like us in that they deserved to be treated respectfully and with dignity. Anyway, I remember being just as scared of the situation as they were and was just trying to do my best to keep things in check. I do remember these men being taken to the command bunker after a while and later flown off the hill. I've always wondered what ever happened to them and possibly if they ever came to the States to live. I wonder what it would be like to reunite with them again and share our memories of that time.
I would appreciate any information that anyone would
have about these men, especially any official record of these incidents.
