The "Borrowed" .50 cal

After the relative peace and quiet was shattered by the Tet Offensive, but before the "Supergaggle" method of supplying Hill 881S was initiated, there were several helicopters shot down in our zone.  The Marines of 2nd Plt., India Co. borrowed this .50cal machine gun from one of those unlucky CH-46 helos.  It worked fine for a while and gave us the ability to "reach out and touch" Mr. Charles.

Eventually it ceased to function properly.  Since it was not an authorized piece of equipment, we didn't have nor could we obtain parts and maintenance for it.  However, it was an awesome looking thing and we left it there to impress Mr. Charles.

Wires running from our bunker to the claymore mines planted beyond our perimeter are also visable.
