The Secretary of the
Navy takes pleasure in
presenting the
CORPORAL KENNETH O. BREWER UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS for outstanding achievement in the superior performance of his duties in the field of professional achievement as set forth in the following CITATION: "While serving as a Radio Operator with Company I, Third Battalion, Twemty-Sixth Marines, First Marine Division in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam, Corporal Brewer performed his duties in an exemplary manner. On 28 November 1968, during Operation Meade River, Company I was conducting a search and destroy operation in Quang Nam Province when an enemy explosive device was detonated wounding several Marines. Although seriously wounded by the blast and unable to walk, Corporal Brewer immediately commenced transmitting vital casualty information to the battalion command group, and after receiving medical aid, he resolutely remained at his radio, continuing to relay important information for his commanding officer. Once assured that all his seriously wounded comrades had been evacuated, Corporal Brewer allowed himself to be assisted from the battle field and was subsequently evacuated from the Republic of Vietnam. His bold initiative and determined efforts inspired all who observed him and contributed significantly to the accomplishment of his unit's mission. Corporal Brewer's courage, sincere concern for the welfare of his companions and steadfast devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself, the Marine Corps and the Naval Service." Corporal Brewer is authorized to wear the Combat "V". FOR THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY, /S/ H. W. Buse, Jr. LIEUTENANT GENERAL, U. S. MARINE CORPS COMMANDING GENERAL, FLEET MARINE FORCE, PACIFIC |
