This picture is of the French Foreign Legion compound
we lived in during our tour in 1964. We occupied the light area to the
left and the Vietnamese were on the right. Between the areas was
a parade grounds and the buildings in the center of our area were the mess
hall, showers, S-1, medical, chapel, and club. The barracks were
around the perimeter for protection. I think it was partly set up
this way for efficiency and partly the old fort mentality. The road
leading to the lower right of the picture went to the flight line.
I think that corner was taken on two wheels the night a hand grenade was
thrown at a load of us in "Sweet Lips".
