Island of Corrigidor with the
Bataan Peninsular in the background. The island was designed to protect
the harbor of Manila but most of the big guns could not turn to fire at
the Japanese on Bataan or in Manila Bay when they snuck in with foggy conditions
one night.

Corrigidor Island buildings are riddled with battle
scars. The masonry walls still stand as stark skeletons of a terrible
battle. There is not a square foot that hasn't been hit with a direct
round or shrapnel.

The female nurses on Corrigidor had quarters inside
the tunnel complex for their safety.
Note the bars on the door, presumably also for their
protection. It was not explained if it was to keep them in our suitors
out.
