Corporal FRY flew as an aerial gunner in a troop lift operation in support of the Forces of the Republic of Vietnam into the heart of an insurgent communist guerilla (Viet Cong) stronghold. This operation was conducted against an extremely well deployed and well armed anti-aircraft unit that brought the fire of many heavy automatic weapons to bear on the incoming and departing waves of helicopters as well as laying down a destructive fire on the landing zone. Despite the extremely dangerous situation, Corporal FRY carried out his duties calmly and effectively contributing measurably to the success of the mission by returning enemy fire with great effectiveness. Corporal FRY participated successfully in four heliborne assault landings into this very fire to complete the mission which had been assigned. By his heroic and coura- geous actions, Corporal FRY upheld the finest traditions of the United States Naval Service." Corporal FRY is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
