UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

for  outstanding  achievement in  the  superior performance  of  his duties  in the field of leadership achievement as set forth in the following

                 CITATION:

"While serving with Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty- Sixth Marines,  First Marine Division  in connection with operations  against the enemy in  the Republic of  Vietnam from  7 November 1967 to  5 August 1968.  Corporal  Fields  performed  his  duties  in  an  exemplary  and  highly competent manner.  As a Fire Team Leader, he displayed outstanding leader- ship and initiative despite extreme adverse conditions and the difficulties of a combat  environment.  On numerous occasions  when  his  unit  was  engaged with hostile  forces, Corporal Fields distinguished himself  by his courage and composure under fire.  Constantly concerned for  the combat readiness of his unit, he tirelessly trained his men and molded  them into an effective fighting force.  As  a result of his  diligence and seemingly  unlimited  resourcefulness, he  gained the respect  and admiration of all  who observed him and  contrib- uted  significantly  to  the  accomplishment  of  his  unit's mission.  Corporal Fields' leadership, outstanding professional  ability and steadfast devotion  to duty throughout reflect great credit upon himself, the  Marine Corps and  the Naval Service."

Corporal Fields is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
