The Bronze Star


 

                 The  President of the United States  takes  pleasure  in presenting  the   BRONZE STAR MEDAL to

FIRST LIEUTENANT CARLTON B. CRENSHAW

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVE

for service as set forth in the following

                 CITATION:

                               "For  meritorious service  in connection  with  combat oper- ations  against  the  enemy  in the Republic of  Vietnam while serving  in various capacities  with  Battery C, First  Battalion,  Thirteenth  Marines,  Ninth  Marine Amphibious Brigade from 7 September 1967 to 12 September 1968.  Though out this period,  First Lieutenant Crenshaw  performed  his demanding  duties  in an exemplary and  highly professional  manner.  Assigned  as Forward Observer  of Company M,  Third Battalion,  Twenty-Sixth Marines,  he displayed  superb ini- tiative and skill  in consistently  providing outstanding  fire support and,  on one occasion,  was  instrumental  in  the  battalion  accounting  for  over  400 enemy soldiers  confirmed killed  during an engagement with a large  North Vietnamese Army force, despite sustaining a painful injury.  Reassigned as Battery Executive Officer, he ably served as  the Officer in Charge of a detachment of howitzers on Hill 881S near  the Khe Sanh  Combat Base and effectively supervised  the deliv- ery of highly accurate and effective fire against hostile positions in the surround- ing  area.   Subsequently  reassigned as  Artillery  Liaison  Officer  of  the  Third Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines,  First Lieutenant Crenshaw  skillfully planned, coordinated  and executed massive  preparation fires  for  Operation Scotland II and,   during  an   attack  against  a   hostile  force,  routing  the  enemy.    First Lieutenant  Crenshaw's   resourceful  leadership,  superior  professionalism  and steadfast devotion  to duty contributed immeasurably to the  accomplishment of his unit's mission and were in keeping with the highest  traditions of the  Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service."

First Lieutenant Crenshaw is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
