Not a day goes by.
Charles W. (Bill) Bryan lived a block away from me and was one of my best friends. We graduated from McKinney High school in May of 1966 and two weeks later we left Dallas on a train for Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, where we were in Platoon 1042. We got split up after ITR, and I only saw him once again after that. Bill was just 20 years old when he died on the afternoon of January 20, 1968, on Hill 881-North, as he led a six man recon patrol. They were overrun by a large NVA force that had infiltrated for the attack on Khe Sanh, about five miles away. Three of those Marines were killed and the other three severely wounded. He was awarded the Navy Cross for his unselfish and heroic actions on that day.  It is now thirty-four years later and not a day in my life since then has gone by that I haven't thought about him.

I miss you, bro. Till we meet again. SEMPER FI!

For Corporal Bryan and all those who knew him and loved him, I just want to say thank you for your dedication and sacrifice! Please know that you have not been forgotten and always will hold a special place in my heart!  It would have been nice to have known you as a person, and I greatly appreciate your service!  I just wish you did not have to pay so high a price!  You forever will be a hero in my eyes!
