The Bronze Star

The  President  of  the  United States takes pleasure  in  presenting  the BRONZE STAR MEDAL posthumously to

FIRST LIEUTENANT DENNIS DEE ANDREWS

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVE

for service as set forth in the following

                 CITATION:

"For  heroic  achievement  in  connection  with  operations against  the  enemy  in  the  Republic  of  Vietnam  while  serving  as  a  Platoon Commander  with  Company M, Third  Battalion, Twenty-Sixth  Marines, Third Marine  Division.  On 10 April 1968,  First Lieutenant  ANDREWS' platoon  was occupying  defensive  positions on  Hill 881 South, near  the  Khe Sanh  Combat Base, when a helicopter was  hit by enemy fire and  crashed in the  landing zone. Disregarding  his own safety, First  Lieutenant ANDREWS unhesitatingly moved across the fire-swept terrain to assist  the wounded and direct their evacuation to a position of  relative safety.  Then, diverting other  aircraft to an alternate zone, he  ensured that all  the wounded were  evacuated before  he returned across  the hazardous terrain to  his platoon.  His heroic actions  inspired all who  observed him  and   undoubtedly  saved  the  lives  of  several  Marines.   First  Lieutenant ANDREWS'  courage,  bold  initiative  and  selfless  devotion  to  duty  at   great personal  risk were  in keeping with  the highest  traditions of  the Marine  Corps and of the United States Naval Service."

The Combat "V" is authorized.
