Kenneth E. Hinz
Col. Dabney,
I respectfully write to inform you that Ken Hinz, the
RTO for the 2nd Platoon, India Company (medevaced in late February, 1968)
passed away on May 14, 2008. Ken's health had been deteriorating
alarmingly for the past ten years -- strokes, heart ailments, prostate
and liver cancer. How much this may be attributed to the effects
of Agent Orange is, of course, a matter of speculation. Ken left
the Marines as a sergeant in 1971. Ken was my cousin, and I spoke with
him over the years about his service and his experiences on 881 South.
He was extremely proud to be a Marine and of his Vietnam service. He was
laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Leavenworth on May 21. He
was a superb Marine, and I shall miss him terribly.
Thank you for your honorable service and for your sponsorship
of the website.
Semper Fi,
Michael Hinz
