I just received word about the death of Brother Fox, (Sgt.) Donald ALFIER, 1st Sgt. USMC Retired. Donald was a Crew Chief with HMM-364 in the later portion of his tour in 1966. Donald served on the drill field at San Diego as a DI following that tour. We met again in 1971 at Fatema, Okinawa and on his return he was stationed at Quantico, Va where he was a DI for OCS. After making 1st Sgt, Don served with the Fifth Marines. After he retired from the Corps he worked as the Head of Security for TRW, a company in Huntington Beach, Ca. (a Defense Contractor) until he retired last fall and moved his family to Surprise, AZ. Don was a young 61 years of age.

I attended Dons funeral yesterday! I am sorry I didn't have an opportunity to visit him before he passed on. The service was held in St Clement catholic church in Sun City and he was buried at the National Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek. I met Dons wife Leila for the first time and as can be expected she is having a difficult time. Fortunately for her she has her family and many family friends to help her during this difficult time. I gave her several pictures of Don that I had taken in early 1966 when we were in country. She told me that when Don died he was wearing his Purple Fox T Shirt and that it meant a great deal to him. I also talked to several of his life long friends (one retired Marine who was on the drill field with him and another former Marine that was in the BLT on the Princeton with us). Everyone I talked to had great love and respect for Don. There was a Marine honor guard at the burial and they made me proud to be a Marine. They executed flawlessly and showed the utmost respect and courtesy to the family.
