Chieu Hoi Program

US and ARVN propaganda leaflets were printed and distributed by many various means, including being dropped from the helicopters of HMM-364.  These leaflets were directed toward the Viet Cong, as well as the regular North Vietnamese Army, to "rally" or change sides to the South Vietnamese government forces.  Any Viet Cong or North Vietnamese Army soldier carrying one was supposed to be given safe passage to interrogation centers in the rear.  The leaflets were probably revised from time to time but in essence they indicated that if the enemy did not change sides they may never see their families again and/or would never enjoy the fruits of a peaceful, democratic and free society.
