From: Commanding General, III Marine Amphibious
Force
To: Commanding Officer, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364 Subj: Departure Message 1. Lift off once again approaches for the "Purple Foxes" of HMM-364. For the third time the officers and men of your squadron prepare to leave the Republic of Vietnam after the successful completion of your support mission. 2. Your helicopters have flown the length and breadth of military region in support of Marine and ARVN forces. Individual Marines of your squadron have been awarded many citations for bravery in combat and for meritorious service under the most adverse conditions. Collectively the squadron leaves behind a reputation for efficiency and ability to get the job done. This was amply demonstrated during your flood relief operations in October 1970 in which nearly 10,000 Vietnamese civilians were lifted to safety. They will remember the "Purple Foxes" as will all Marines who have had the privilege of flying with you. 3. God speed to your new destination, you depart with a "Well Done", richly deserved. LtGen. From: Commanding General, First Marine Aircraft
Wing
To: Commanding Officer, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364 Subj: Congratulatory Message 1. On 22 February 1971, the "Purple Foxes" of HMM-364 stood down in preparation for departure rom RVN after five and one half years of combat. Aggressive performance has typified your actions. You will be missed by the Marines and allied forces operating in MR-1. Your 45,000 combat hours flown in carrying over 16,000 medevacs, over 10,000 tons of cargo and nearly one quarter million passengers represents a superb contribution to the First MAW Combat effort. My sincere thanks for a job well done. As division recon says, "That's been "Swift" working for us." MajGen. ARMSTRONG sends |
