Marines in the truck are a recon team that 1stLt.
Henry B. "Hank" Lamb (lower right) has just extracted under fire.
They are on their way back LZ 401 their home plate. My guess is that
Hank's aircraft sustained battle damage and the reason he did not deliver
them to their LZ.

Our "Fox" also flew with HMH-463. Here Sgt.
Steve Culver, the crew chief of YH-12, stands by our NC-5 generator truck.
Sgt. Culver was preparing to "top" his engines to produce maximum power.
This required willing drivers of two NC-5s to be loaded internally into
the CH-53 which was hovered over the South China Sea (continued) |

at approx. 2,000 feet. One engine was taken
off line and the remaining engine topped by adjusting its fuel control
to achieve maximum exhaust gas temperature. The process was then
repeated for the second engine. Our Cpl. Bert Miller was assisting
Sgt. Culver.

Sgt. Al Glover is the nubian prince standing in our
hootch. I remember Al as a gentleman with gentle ways but someone you would
always want at your side when the shit hit the fan.
