On 5 August 1969 at 0905 hours, 18 miles SW of Da Nang, Quan Nam Province, RVN.  While flying on routine medevac mission, the HMM-364 aircraft was hovering over the landing zone when it received intense small arms fire and automatic fire.  WILBUR received shrapnel wound to the left hand.
