LtCol. LaVoy had flown SBD Dive Bombers in combat during WW II.  He had flown combat nissions during the Korean Conflict.  He came to HMM-364 and Vietnam as a seasoned warrior.  He was admired and respected by the Marines of HMM-364.  They would follow him anywhere, and they did.
